Important Notice to Bradley Smoker Owners

Have you purchased an Original or Stainless Steel Bradley Smoker between September 2005 and the 5th December 2005?

On the 2nd December 2005 Bradley Technologies Canada Inc (BTI) identified a manufacturing fault with a batch of Bradley Smokers which has the potential to cause an electrical shock, where the smokers are not connected in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

From September this year the main power lead previously hard wired into the smoke generator was replaced with a kettle type lead. This was done in order that smokers could be supplied to countries with different plug leads according to the countries’ socket type. There is no problem with this arrangement.

The short lead that supplies power from the smoke generator to the cabinet should be a male to female connector where the male end connects to the generator and the female end of the lead connects to a male socket build into the back of the cabinet. The logic to this arrangement is that should the manufacturer’s instruction to connect the lead before turning on the power is ignored, and the smoke generator is consequently live before the short lead is connected, there will be no possibility of exposing a live male end.

The design of the leads should therefore be as shown in the diagram below.

The fault that has been identified is that a batch each of the Original and Stainless Steel smokers have been manufactured with a female socket in the back of the cabinet and supplied with a short lead that has two male ends.  The possibility exists that should the power be switched on before the short lead is connected, and if the short lead is then connected first to the smoke generator, the male pins at the other end of the short lead will be live before being connected to the cabinet. This offers the potential to give an electrical shock should the male pins be touched.

The diagram above is the approved arrangement supplied to the manufacturing plant by BTI. Why the manufacturing plant chose to change the build specification is under close investigation by BTI.

We have considered the logistics of bringing all smokers with the faulty arrangement back into our warehouse for correction, and where the smokers remain boxed and unopened, this remains an option. However the bulk of the smokers with the fault will have already been supplied to customers and will be in use. In most cases the packaging will have been discarded.

We propose, therefore, to supply the correct lead and socket and to meet the cost of rectifying the fault in situ, the work to be performed by a competent electrician, to be recruited locally and carried out at your location or in the homes of the smoker owners.

We are attempting to trace all owners of faulty smokers through our dealer network.

Here are the serial numbers of the smokers which have the problem:

050800105000001 to 050800105000075
050800105000075 to 050800105000175
050800105000001 to 050800105000046
050800105000047 to 050800105000096

If you own a smoker cabinet which has been supplied with a female socket in the back of the cabinet please contact us or use this form to notify us at once.
